The Atlas Tasting Council
An independent perspective on tequila quality: approved, knowledgeable evaluators whose scores appear beside community ratings — never blended into one number.
Two transparent perspectives
Every bottle on Agave Atlas can carry two separate scores of equal prominence: a Community Score from all members, and a Council Score from approved Atlas Tasting Council members. The two are never combined, and a single rating is never counted in both.
Membership is granted only by the Agave Atlas administrators. Members keep their full rating and review history; only evaluations submitted while their membership is active count toward a Council Score.
Evaluation methodology
Council members use the same 10-point scale as the whole community. To keep evaluations consistent, each evaluation is encouraged to consider:
- Aroma
Nose of the spirit neat: agave character, cooking, fermentation, and any oak influence.
- Flavor
Palate balance, cooked agave intensity, sweetness, pepper, minerality, citrus, and herbal notes.
- Mouthfeel
Body, texture, and oiliness on the tongue.
- Finish
Length, character, and cleanliness of the close.
- Overall impression
The evaluator's holistic judgement, expressed on the same 10-point scale members use.
- Written tasting notes accompany evaluations whenever possible.
- Members disclose relevant commercial relationships with tequila brands.
- Existing rating averages and member histories are never altered by Council status.
